Rincón de la Vieja Volcano National Park

Park Info

From Tuesday to Sunday, from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. This national park is closed on Mondays.

You will visit from a dry forest to a cloud one in the midst of a volcanic environment on a short journey.

Emanations of boiling mud, boiling water and steam that resonate in the air … You can witness all this volcanic activity and also can visit a dry forest, one wet, one humid and one cloud in just two hours.

“There are unique experiences that you only can live in this park, like visiting the waterfall La Cangreja (known as the ‘Blue Lagoon’ due to the characteristic watercolor), walks through the different environments with stunning ocean views, and the opportunity to witness ‘front first row’ some of the forming agents of Costa Rican territory”, highlighted Luis Alex Garcia, head of tourism in this National Park.

Attractions

Rincon de la Vieja has two sectors, Las Pailas and Santa María, whose beauties stand volcanic manifestations.

In Las Pailas you can visit the trail of the same name, the hidden waterfalls and La Cangreja Falls, the trail to the crater, and Cerro Von Seebach (all high difficulty).

In Santa Maria, you can visit the Hummingbird Trail, The Pailas of Cold Water, Enchanted Forest Waterfalls, Hot Springs (all of the above, of moderate difficulty), and the sightseeing place (high difficulty).
