Alex Grey was born in 1953 in Columbus, Ohio. He attended art schools in Columbus and Boston before spending five years working in the anatomy department at Harvard Medical School. Grey began drawing at age 5 and creating artworks examining human anatomy, spirituality, and consciousness, including his influential "Sacred Mirrors" exhibit from 1972 and numerous self-portraits.
